Become a part of the
Old Towne Merchants Group
The purpose of the group is to support initiatives that promote the Old Towne area in order to draw shoppers, diners, and visitors to the area. We also offer a cooperative advertising program for merchants who wish to participate. Membership fee is $50 per year.
Just some of our 2008 Achievements -
- Assisted once again with the reprinting of the marketing brochure & walking map (thank you to all who helped and especially Studio Ammons and the City of Petersburg)
- Distributed press releases, newspaper & magazine ads promoting Old Towne events & businesses
- Hosted sidewalk sales and the successful first Old Towne Bazaar and Dog Stroll
- Hosted a Scavenger Hunt to foster exploration of our historic area (thanks to the Visitor Center for serving as "start point")
- Prepared a pot luck dinner held after a Petersburg Generals baseball game, in conjunction with the Retail Merchants Association
- Hosted or cooperated in other events
- Served as a liaison between Old Towne business and residents with the Bureau of Police, City Council, local non-profits and other groups
- Distribute a weekly "this week in Old Towne" email which informs our 900+ mailing list members of events in Old Towne
2007 Accomplishments -
- Organized the 2 reprintings of the marketing brochure (thank you to all who assisted!)
- Many OTMG members pulled together with assistance from other citizens and business owners to take over Nostalgiafest implementation on short notice, with great success (thank you to the City of Petersburg and our sponsors)
- Hosted the Celebration of the Centuries Ball on New Year's Eve as a fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the continued promotion of Old Towne as a historic, cultural and entertainment venue
- Prepared and distributed the "Bedecked and Bedazzling" flyers at Christmas time to promote member events
- Shared information with our members about sites to post free event info, special ad deals (print and radio)
- Organized merchant events such as Sidewalk Sales
Some of the things we accomplished in 2006 -
- Marketing brochure which showcases businesses, museums, art galleries
- Hosted events such as sidewalk sales, free Christmas gift wrapping
- Started the "walk the loop" campaign
- Collected Christmas toys for an area elementary school
