Old Towne Petersburg 2009 Dog Stroll Event

Many brought their canine buddies to historic, charming Old Towne Petersburg, VA and enjoyed a fun day of dog-friendly shopping/sidewalk sales, and dog-themed events. This was also ARMED FORCES DAY and there were extra-special discounts for MILITARY ID CARD HOLDERS at most stores and restaurants (be sure to ask).

This event benefited the Petersburg/Colonial Heights SPCA with a pet food drive. Volunteers from the Prince George Animal Shelter judged the dog contest, and they brought pets available for adoption also! See other pets you can adopt NOW. GO HERE.

Early birds started at the Farmer’s Market on River Street, under the Martin Luther King Bridge (Rt 1 bridge) near the Visitor Center. The Farmer’s Market starts about 7 a.m and runs until noon and offers fresh local produce, flowers and herbs, organic meat and eggs, baked goods and handmade soaps, jams and sauces. Most folks grabbed a FREE GOODIE BAG & EVENT LIST from the Visitor Center at 425 Cockade Alley - open 9-5 pm / 733.2400.

Pet-related activities included:

Family Dog Digest gave away copies of the magazine,and other freebies (a photo of you and your dog might show up in a future issue of the digest, you never know!)

Fun Dog contest at 1 pm at Old Towne Market Place at Bank and Market Streets

Face painting (for kids), and music
at the Dixie Diner, PLUS puppy-
themed art display done by local
students.
Dogs were welcome on the patio!

Toni at Purple Passion gave out
treats & took photos of each dog in
front of PP and folks registered their dogs for
the second annual paw painting
exhibit in June

Therapeutic Massage Center & Boutique allowed dogs upstairs to shop for special products and a drawing was held for a raffle item.

Maggie's donated $1 to the SPCA for each
VERA BRADLEY item sold THAT DAY. Plus they
had organic homemade dog treats for sale!

Kimberly Ann's gave a discount to folks with animals (they are always welcome in Kimberly Ann's).

Signature Style Polish Pottery Shop allowed dogs inside the store, Also KIM COLTON demonstrated
the art of pottery throwing on a wheel. ------------->

Many other businesses also participated.
