Scavenger Hunt in Old Towne!
HOW THE HUNT IS CONDUCTED
When and where is the hunt?
This scavenger hunt runs the week of
May 9 – May 15 and will be conducted in
Old Towne Petersburg, VA. NOTE that the
hunt start and end dates correspond to
Old Towne events – May 9 is the monthly
Friday for the Arts! extravaganza from
6–10pm & May 15 is a Thursday in Old Towne
concert date (this evening’s performers are
Caspar and Speed8Limit). These are
wonderful evening events, so finish your hunt
during daylight then enjoy the festivities at
night. You are welcome to hunt any day during
this period, however on Sunday and Monday,
many businesses and restaurants are closed.
How does the hunt work?
The quest is simple. You will be searching for answers to the clues on the CLUE SHEET in your hunt bag. Clues are not in any particular order as far as location of the answer sites. No previous knowledge of Old Towne is necessary to play. You will also find some BROCHURES, PICTURES, and a MAP in your clue bag, which may contain answers (or may not) but will generally assist you in your quest. We hope you take away some fascinating information about Old Towne, and a desire to have a meal, poke in the shops, visit a museum, and learn about our City. You can finish the hunt in one visit, or spread it out over the week of May 9 – May 15. This is not a race, or timed event.
Can I bring kids?
Yes, but bear in mind that this hunt is geared more towards adults and kids may feel there is too much walking, or find it less than exciting, depending on their ages.
Are the hunts wheelchair accessible?
For the most part. Old Towne’s sidewalks are accessible, but there are some cobblestone streets in the area. Almost all answers can be obtained from OUTSIDE buildings or inside wheelchair-friendly spaces, so there are no issues with stairs.
Is there a prize?
Yes! Each correctly completed entry (all questions must be correctly answered) will be entered into a drawing for $50 cash. Earn EXTRA DRAWING ENTRIES by referring others to play. Just be sure they mention your name when signing up (you get 1 extra drawing entry per referral)! The winner will be notified by email within 1 week after hunt completion. In addition, each hunt bag will contain 2 DOOR PRIZE TICKETS, which may be filled out and dropped into the prize box for any 2 prizes you desire to try to win. Door prizes will be located at the same location as the hunt bags. The main prize we hope you take home is a fun time in Old Towne, and memories of an exciting scavenger experience!
How should I dress for the hunt?
Wear comfy shoes and bring an umbrella if you think it might rain. There is plenty of free parking in Old Towne, so you can do the entire search on foot, or launch a walk/drive attack. Carry water, but keep in mind the many fine restaurants in the hunt area. Discovering a great new dining establishment might be one of the high points of your experience! The entire hunt area is only a few blocks square.
How do I get help if I am absolutely stumped on a clue?
This is a moderately challenging hunt, but if you need help, we’ll give some emergency assistance information on the bottom of your clue sheet. Don’t worry, we’ll be there for you!
HOW MUCH DOES THE HUNT COST AND WHERE DO I SIGN UP?
The May scavenger hunt is FREE and YES, you must SIGN UP IN ADVANCE. We need to know how many people will come so that we can prepare the correct number of hunt bags and be sure they are located at the start point. Sign up is simple - email info@oldtownepetersburg.com or call 804.733.4495 (secretary, Old Towne Merchants Group) Tues – Sat 11-5 p.m. NOTE that email is required for registration, as we will notify the prize winner by email. After registration, we will give you the hunt bag location and you can play anytime during the week of May 9 – May 15.
